Week 7 Review - Top 10

Posted Tuesday, October 19, 2010 by Peter DiGiovanni, Daily Local

Rustin's aerial attack looking potent

Week 7 brought many things to light in area football, and the biggest one was the aerial assault West Chester Rustin unleashed on West Chester Henderson in the Golden Knights' 27-18 victory.

Andrew Fithian makes good decisions in the pocket as his 16 touchdown, no interception record for the season shows. Anthony Nash is almost unstoppable at 6-foot-5 and with the speed he has.

Rustin should run the table in its last three games and enter the Class AAAA playoffs at around the eight or nine seed. The Knights will be tough for anybody in the first round.

Coatesville romped over West Chester East with the return of running back Dom Wilson, who rushed for 106 yards on the Vikings. The Red Raiders visit a desperate Henderson team this Friday in what should be a real head knocker as the Warriors need a win badly to make the playoffs.

Oxford has now played good football for three weeks in a row, winning two of those games, and the Hornets may be building something down in the southern part of the county.

This week brings Downingtown East and Downingtown West together and the game should be played at a fever pitch. Early in the season it looked like East would mercy rule the Whippets, now I think the game is a toss up. Whippet quarterback Ken Fuhrman gets better and better each week.

Council Rock South goes to Neshaminy and does something not many people do -- beat the Redskins at Harry Franks Stadium. The Golden Hawks are now the No. 1 seed in Class AAAA.

Conestoga's superb running back Blair Brooks now has 981 yards on the season after his 251 yard explosion on Penncrest. The Pioneers threw down 468 yards of total offense on the Lions and kept their playoff hopes alive.

Downingtown East rolled over Bishop Shanahan, 35-8 and got big defenive games from Jeff Kiely and Chris Clemen. Also, Brandon Robles is a first teamer in my opinion in the defensive backfield for the Cougars.

And Cougar quarterback Trey Lauletta is one of the nicest and smartest young men you will ever meet. Lauletta never takes any credit for the Cougars success and has narrowed his college choices down to Harvard, Princeton and Penn. I would say the young man has a bright future ahead of him.
